Summary

The GlobeDrought project aims in the development of a web-based drought information system. The impact of drought on water resources, crop productivity, food trade and the need for international food aid will be examined using a combination of observational data and model outputs. Drought risks will be characterized by considering the components drought hazard, exposure and vulnerabilit. Remote sensing, precipitation data, hydrological and crop modeling will be the base of drought hazard indicators, representing meteorological, hydrological and agronomic drought. Socioeconomic data will enable the determination of drought exposure and vulnerability. In addition to a global analysis, drought regions as Southern Africa will be complemented. The subjects are allocated on several working groups. The working group at IGG is responsible for the processing and assimilation of GRACE gravity field data into a hydrological model.
