Summary
The knowledge of the neutral density in the atmosphere is important for applications such as the precise orbit determination of satellites or space debris. The aim of the TOLEOS project is to process the thermospheric neutral density and, where possible, crosswind observations from on-board accelerometer measurements from the missions GRACE, GRACE-FO and CHAMP consistently. The resulting density and wind observations will cover a time span of about 22 years. Besides the data processing, which is lead by TU Delft, the results will be validated carefully using orbital conjunctions as well as data assimilation into models with contributions from CNES and DLR. From the APMG group at the University of Bonn, we are responsible for the validation of the radiation pressure force models of the Sun and the Earth, which are required in the density and wind processing.
